West Coast Swing- Choreography Series

Country Swing

Country swing is a stationary, energetic and versatile social dance style that combines elements of swing dancing with country music, typically danced to live music in local dance halls.

Social Swing

Sometimes referred to as Jitterbug, Social swing is a fun and improvisational partner dance style that evolved from Lindy Hop, offering a simplified and accessible approach by replacing the traditional triple steps with single steps. Known for its lively and circular movements, this stationary dance is highly adaptable to various music genres. Social swing is a fantastic choice for weddings and other social events, providing an engaging and enjoyable experience for dancers of all levels.

West Coast Swing

West Coast Swing is a stationary, smooth, and elastic-like dance that emphasizes connection, musicality, and improvisation. It’s typically danced to contemporary or blues music. This dance is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide due to its dual emphasis on creativity and technique. It's perfect for both competing and social dancing at local West Coast Swing events, and increasingly in country bars.

Bar Coast

Bar Coast is a fusion dance that combines the basic components of Country Swing with the patterns of West Coast Swing, creating a unique and expressive dance style.

This class emphasizes a concept-based approach, prioritizing connection, feel, and the language of partnering over traditional pattern-based footwork.

Dance Hall Fusion

Dance Hall Fusion blends the rhythm and structure of progressive Two-Step and/or One-Step with the smooth connection and musicality of West Coast Swing, offering a modern twist on these classic dances.

Modern Bachata

Modern Bachata is a contemporary evolution of traditional bachata, blending elements of various dance styles to create a fresh and expressive dance form. This dance emphasizes smooth transitions, body isolations, and strong connection, allowing dancers to infuse it with their own style and creativity. Modern Bachata is perfect for those who want to amplify their passion for bachata with a modern twist, whether on the social dance floor or in performance settings.

Salsa (On1)

Salsa is a lively and rhythmic partner dance style that originated in the Caribbean. Known for its quick footwork and sensual body movements, it can be enjoyed in both social and competitive settings. Salsa is usually danced to vibrant, upbeat Latin music and is perfect for dancers looking to explore dynamic routines and expressive styling.

Country Waltz

A style of waltz dance performed to country music, essentially using the traditional waltz steps and movements but with the characteristic rhythm and feel of country tunes, typically in 3/4 time, giving it a more relaxed and sometimes slightly slower pace compared to a standard ballroom waltz; it's considered a graceful and romantic dance often seen at country dance halls.

Blues

Blues, great for beginners, is a low-key, simple and expressive partner dance. With its smooth, grounded movements and emphasis on connection and improvisation, Blues is easy to learn and perfect for infusing your own style—or even blending with other dances. It adapts to the mood and tempo of blues music, making it a versatile and relaxed dance for anyone looking to explore musicality and personal expression on the dance floor.
